LENTEN PROJECT 2003
This year we are raising money for a very poor church in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world. The church is being supported by the Catholic international charity, Aid to the Church in Need. On 9 March representatives from the charity will give a short talk at the end of the Masses about the project. This particular charity tries to help Catholics in need wherever they are repressed or persecuted and therefore prevented from living according to their faith. You might think why raise money for another church when we have so much to do here in our own parish. It is so important for a parish not to become too introspective or cut off from the rest of the Church. Lent is a time when we as Catholics give alms to those in need. It reminds us of how blessed we are and we thank God by being charitable. It is of course a form of penance, we repent of our sins, particularly during Lent, and try in small ways to improve as a people and become better Christians.
