THE THREE ELECT FOR BAPTISM RECEIVE THE RITE OF
EPHPHETHA
On Holy Saturday morning at
10.00am we celebrated the Ephphetha Rite – the blessing of the elect who were to be
baptised later that night at the Easter Vigil. The word ‘Ephphetha’ means
‘Opening’ or "Be thou opened" - and the ceremony is the rite of opening the ears
and mouth so that the candidates receive the grace to hear and profess the word
of God.
