Recent research shows that marriage is best for keeping families together.  An estimated 88,000 children under 5 were affected by separation of their unmarried parents in 2003, compared to 31,000 whose married parents divorced (The Times, 5th February).  Government support for relationship education could potentially reduce the problem of relationship breakdown and help couples appreciate the significance of a strong commitment to each other.  Please write to your MP, Edward Davey, House of Commons,SW1 OAA, or/and the Secretary of State for Education, Ruth Kelly MP, to help change the Government mindset in this important area.
